“We have to start preparing for the next deadly epidemic” was published on the website of The Hill, a Washington, D.C.-based newspaper focusing on policy, politics, and international relations.
On September 27th, 2017, The Hill published an op-ed by Alain Mérieux that called for increased mobilization to strengthen capacity of developing countries to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease threats. Mr. Mérieux cautioned that in an urban, global world, health systems weaknesses anywhere threaten everyone.
“Stronger health systems and better international cooperation on infectious threats are possible but more countries and partners need to engage, and to do so with greater efficiency. It is the only way we can see the threats around us well enough to act, and to act fast,” said Alain Mérieux, President of the Mérieux Foundation.
